ThyssenKrupp Elevator Shines in the New Indira Gandhi International Airport-Terminal 3 in New Delhi

260 units provide efficient transportation services in one of the world's largest integrated terminal

Inaugurated by Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India and Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport-Terminal 3 (T3) in New Delhi was put into operation in July 2010. A total of 260 units of ThyssenKrupp Elevator equipment – 77 elevators, 34 escalators, 92 moving walks and 57 passenger boarding bridges – have been successfully supplied and installed in T3 to provide efficient vertical and horizontal transportation services to an estimated 34 million passengers from all over the world annually.

These high quality transportation systems from ThyssenKrupp Elevator represent cutting-edge technology and installation capability exclusively delivered to meet the special requirements of this most modern aviation hub. In T3, the company designed and installed the longest moving walk (118 m) in Asia. Furthermore, with a floor space of 6.4 million square ft, T3 covers an awe-inspiring size and scale. Thanks to the ThyssenKrupp Elevator transportation systems, from heavy duty passenger elevators and freight elevators, to high quality escalators, moving walks, and passenger boarding bridges, the efficient operation of the terminal is assured and passengers are thus able to reach their respective destinations safely, quickly and smoothly.

The IGI Airport is rated as the "Best Improved Airport" in the Asia Pacific Region by Airport Council International (ACI). T3, as the centerpiece of the airport's modernization process, perfectly performs its role as modern India's window to the world. Comprising a 9-level terminal building, it features a full range of world class facilities including 168 check-in counters, the longest runway in India, the largest multi-level car parking facility of the country as well as a dedicated high speed metro line. The building contains almost 20,000 m2  of commercial space with numerous restaurants, cafes and bars, luxury retailers, hostels and other leisure and service facilities. In a word, T3 symbolizes the aspirations of the new and vibrant India. As an air traffic hub and engine for growth, it opens immense possibilities for the future development of this country.
