ThyssenKrupp Elevator to embellish prestigious public infrastructure project in Shanghai

17 elevators and escalators are installed at the two-storey walkway in the financial zone, Lujiazui Area in Pudong

ThyssenKrupp Elevator (China), a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG, has recently completed installation of 12 outdoor escalators and 5 elevators for the new “Circular Two-storey Elevated Walkway” Project in Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone, Pudong, Shanghai. Located in the heart of the Lujiazui area, the most prominent financial district in China, the Walkway is set to connect the metro station and the nearby prestigious landmark skyscrapers such as Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, Shanghai International Financial Center and etc.

The Walkway Project covers a total land area of 22,107 square meters and is composed of four distinct parts named: Pearl Ring (3,522 square meters), Oriental Floating Pavilion (13,685 square meters), Century Overpass (1,000 square meters) and Century Walkway (3,900 square meters). The 17 units of ThyssenKrupp Elevator equipment have been installed at the Pearl Ring and Oriental Floating Pavilion, which are scheduled to open to the public at the same time as the Shanghai World Expo in May 2010.

All the escalators from ThyssenKrupp Elevator are designed to accommodate the high pedestrian volume and heavy duty operation in this area. As these escalators are installed outdoors and fully exposed to the weather elements, they have a durable weather-proof design which enables them to operate normally in the rain, snow and under icy conditions. Furthermore, in order to cope with the possible ground settlement due to its location near the river, additional techniques have been employed in this project to ensure the stability and robustness of the installed equipment.

Furthermore, the elevators are equipped with special features designed for the convenience of handicapped passengers. The 4 panoramic elevators, together with the escalators, not only provide passengers with a safe, comfortable and quick access to and between the nearby buildings, but also present them with an unforgettable view of the magnificent Shanghai skyline. This prominent “Circular Two-storey Elevated Walkway” project represents yet another important milestone in the success story of ThyssenKrupp Elevator in China.

The Elevator Technology business area brings together the ThyssenKrupp Group's global activities in passenger transportation systems.
